Emily Sheahan: Marathon Runner, MD, and Mom

Emily Sheahan, an ECC member and family physician, recently completed her eighth Boston Marathon, running for a cause close to her heart: providing clean water through World Vision. Inspired by her sister's involvement with a running group supporting clean water initiatives, Emily has dedicated herself to running a marathon every year since 2011 to raise funds for World Vision's projects. After witnessing World Vision's work firsthand in Zambia, Emily became even more committed to supporting their efforts, which include providing clean water, sanitation education, agricultural training, and microloans to communities in need.

Over the years, Emily has garnered support from various churches and individuals, raising around $30,000 for World Vision. She emphasizes that even small donations, like $50 to provide clean water for one person, make a significant impact. Emily has also requested prayers from her community. Despite the physical demands of marathon running, Emily intends to continue participating in and fundraising for World Vision as long as she is able, motivated by the greater cause of helping others.

To support Emily's cause and contribute to World Vision's efforts, you can donate directly through their website below.

Beyond the water
Multiple children are sponsored through donation efforts at ECC, as well as the annual 30 hour famine fundraiser hosted by the ECC Youth group.

“World Vision Motivated by our faith in Jesus, we work in some of the world's toughest places on earth empowering children, families, and their communities out of poverty. Because of our community-focused solutions, for every child you help, four more children benefit, too!”

“Youth groups sign up for the national Famine date at the end of February or choose their own Famine date. Then students learn about hunger and fundraise to help feed and care for children living in poverty. On Famine weekend, students get up close and personal with hunger by going 30 hours without food. World Vision provides loads of activities to help make this a totally fun, educational, and life-changing experience. The donations you send in after the Famine will be used to change lives.”
